How It Works
The bottleneck in learning to grade is feedback, not effort
Physical grading is learned by repetition against a known answer. In practice, a candidate gets that answer from an instructor, and the instructor is not available at eleven at night with a tray of borderline sours.
We built the trainer from photographs of beans in graded samples rather than from illustrations, so the bean you are asked to call looks like the bean that will be in front of you in the exam. Grade your own trays alongside it and compare your count with ours.

In the classroom
How a session runs
Grade the tray by hand
Run the physical count as you normally would, and write it down before you look at anything else.
Photograph the same tray
One frame from above, same sample, no rearranging. The point is to compare like with like.
Compare the two counts
Go through the disagreements as crops. Every argument is about a specific bean you can both see.
Drill the weak categories
Whichever defect you and the analysis disagreed on most is the one to practise in the trainer.
